Trustee Recruitment Advertisement

CSIS Charity Fund is seeking to recruit four new Trustees, including a new Treasurer, to help steer the charity through an important period of change, develop our grant giving policies, and distribute well over £¾ million a year to civil and public service charities and a wide range of other good causes. We are looking for individuals:

CSIS Charity Fund is an independent registered charity linked to the Civil Service Insurance Society, a not-for-profit organisation which markets good quality, affordable insurance products to civil and public servants. The annual trading surplus of the insurance business, which typically runs at about £½ - ¾ million a year but last year topped £1million, is paid into the charity under a Deed of Covenant. The Trustees distribute this to a wide range of good causes that benefit serving, former, and retired civil and public servants and their families - who include fire fighters, ambulance workers, nurses, teachers, the armed forces and prison officers - who have fallen on hard times through no fault of their own. You can find more about us from our website www.csischarityfund.org.

We currently have thirteen Trustees, four of whom will be standing down in May when their current terms of office come to an end. We are looking for a range of skills and experience, but we want to strengthen our board and secure a more diverse board, with knowledge of the wider charity world as well as of the public services, and knowledge of the causes and consequences of hardship and need. We need to put in place succession plans for several key posts. Our Treasurer is due to stand down in May, and recruiting a replacement is our priority. But we also need to put in place long term succession plans for the post of Chairman and the Trustee who takes the lead on considering grant applications. We are also keen to recruit a Trustee with experience of marketing and communication, including the potential uses of social media. Trustees are not paid, but out of pocket expenses are reimbursed

To apply, please download the application form from our website where you can also find a full job description for the post. Email the completed form, along with a short CV, to Helen Harris, Secretary to the charity, on helenharris@csis.co.uk. Please copy to Sue Davie, on suedavie64@gmail.com, who is helping us to with the recruitment process. The closing date to receive applications is Wednesday 21 February. We aim to hold interviews in central London on 22 and 28 March.

If you would like any further information, please contact Helen Harris in the first instance, by email on helenharris@csis.co.uk or by telephone on 01622 766963 (direct dial). If you are unable to submit the application form by email, please contact Helen to discuss alternative arrangements.

Treasurer's Advertisement

CSIS Charity Fund is seeking a new Treasurer to take up office in May 2018 when the present Treasurer's term of office ends, to help steer the charity through an important period of change, develop our grant giving policies, and distribute well over £¾ million a year to civil and public service charities and a wide range of other good causes. (The Treasurer is a Trustee, and a Director of the charitable company.)

The charity currently holds investments of £1.7 million and over the last 10 years it has made grants of over £7.4 million to over 100 different charitable organisations.

At present, the day-to-day finance function is carried out by the charity Secretary who is an employee of the Insurance Society. Changes will need to be made to these arrangements within the next year to put in place a more formal service agreement between the two organisations. The new Treasurer will have an important role in overseeing that process, as well as liaising with the auditor and advising the Trustees on budgetary matters, risk management and the performance of our investment manager. You can find out more about the charity and its finances from our website www.csischarityfund.org. Trustees are not paid, but out of pocket expenses are reimbursed
