Applying for a Grant

Are you an individual looking for financial help or advice?

We are really sorry but we can only give grants or advice to individuals who are either Civil Service Insurance Society policyholders or who have been financially dependent on a policyholder who has died. Our page of "Useful Links" gives a number of organisations who may be able to help you. Many of them give help to individuals who are either currently employed in one of the public services or have been in the past, but the Citizens Advice www.citizensadvice.org.uk, Step Change www.stepchange.org , and Turn2us www.turn2us.org.uk are always good places to start.

Are you a case worker looking for help for an individual client?

We have limited funds and even more limited administrative resources, and we cannot help everyone, much as we would like to. We do not normally give grants to support specific individuals unless they are current policyholders of the Civil Service Insurance Society or were financially dependent on a policyholder who has died. If you work for a small charity which has been set up specifically to help serving or retired public service employees we may not have heard of you and if you would like us to consider making a one-off donation to your funds we are happy to do that. However, you will need to make an application through our normal processes. Are you a charitable organisation considering asking us for a grant?

Our Grant Giving Policy can be downloaded here. As that shows, our primary focus is on supporting the main public service charities with annual grants. However, we can pay grants to any registered charity or not-for-profit organisation and we are prepared to consider requests to support any project where we can see there will be a clear and direct impact on serving or former or retired civil and public servants in need, hardship and distress, whatever the cause. Please note, however, that our funds are limited and our strong preference is to support organisations that do not have access to other substantial sources of income, where we know a small, one-off grant can make a real difference.
